The Space Race-Remembering the Past and Reimagining the Future with Astronauts Paul Lockhart and Mike Massimino

Last night, I had the incredible honor of moderating and chairing an event that was truly out of this world! Joined by the incredible NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Astronauts Paul Lockhart and Michael Massimino, we embarked on an exploratory journey at our YPO Metro Gold NY event.

The discussion took us from the historical race to the moon to the thrilling prospects of Mars exploration and the industry of space tourism. Lockhart (Paco) and Massimino (Mass) shared not only their professional insights but also their personal experiences. Their stories of resilience, the challenges they overcame, and the pivotal moments that shaped their careers were deeply inspiring.

Lockhart, with his profound experience as a spacecraft pilot and Air Force veteran, shared invaluable insights from his two Space Shuttle missions, STS-111 and STS-113, both in 2002 to the International Space Station.

Massimino, who is not only as a former astronaut but also is an engineering professor at Columbia University, captivated us with tales of his record-breaking spacewalks and how he was one of the engineers to repair the Hubble telescope.

My lifelong passion for space has always been intertwined with a deep commitment to caring for our planet Earth. Being involved in the Virgin Galactic program and Zero-G for over 15 years, I was deeply inspired by the perspectives shared on the future of space travel. It's not just about new discoveries; it's about innovation, resilience, making an impact, and being a force for good.
